MIXED EMOTIONS

{another ‘all the feels’ post about Boston — feel free to skip}

Today I finally unpacked one of the small bags from the marathon only to find all of the race swag and paraphernalia and my bib from marathon Monday.

As I tossed stuff out & laid stuff aside I thought about how unsettled I still feel even though a month has past since race day.

When you finish a race…any race…a 5k, 10k, half, full, Warrior Dash, Spartan Run, Ultra whatever — you have such a sense of accomplishment and pride…. even if it was the suckiest, most awful, horrible, painstaking run of your life you still can say

"I FINISHED!!"

I cannot do that with the 2013 Boston Marathon…

As I have noted in past posts I don’t wear race shirts until after I finish the race {bad juju in my mind} and I also don’t hang up my bibs if I DNF’d or put stickers on my car until the mileage is in the books…

There are no stickers that say 20.2 (for me) or 25.8 (for rookcanrun)…

Soooo, all of this stuff makes me feel very sad — very unsettled — very incomplete…

So, on June 1st, with Bob (rookcanrun) by my side and as many other Tumblr’s who can make it {I hope as many of you who can join us will} I intend on finishing my 2013 Boston Marathon by running the Unfinished Business 10k.

Since I am recovering from my injury I many not run it fast or pretty and I may walk it if that is what the doctor tells me I need to do…

But I need to cross the finish line {even though and informal and unrecorded finish time}…

  • I need the sense of accomplishment…
  • I need to carry the memory bib of my friend, David Pickens, across the finish line…
  • I need to feel that sense of completion….
  • I need it to move on and have pride in that day and in what I set out to achieve….

Count down to the finish starts NOW!!!
